this ep brings together tracks that bookend lee norris prolific career: two from 1998s sought-after tidal frequencies ep and two cd-only tracks from 2015s * soul of the machine* compilation. for fans, this is a welcome reminder of the sometimes visceral (‘instamatic’), sometimes weightless (‘fragile’) but always deeply-felt sensation that noriss’ music continues to impress even on the most seasoned devotee. for new listeners, this is a comprehensive introduction to the career of a man whose sound has remained diverse yet cohesive over more than 15 lps and twice as many 12”s. ‘slowform’ and ‘ride’, both new cuts from last year’s retrospective, show a dance floor progression that bodes well for his newest album, out in 2016.

for their tenth release, voodoo down has again chosen to debut a new act to add to their label roster. andy harper and nic ford have been making music together for over a decade but began releasing in earnest under the name maddermodes in 2014 on their own label, shift coordinate points. they have since put out records on the labels millions of moments and night drive music. their handful of releases have already drawn support from top names like move d and nick höppner, and its clear that the duos sound is only getting more refined with each successive record. the ep entitled emprical evidence is a wholly cinematic piece of work, spread across four tracks that unravel slowly, unified by a theme of pumping syncopated rhythms under sprawling pad and string progressions. its easy to get lost in the thick arrangements, and the inventive use of samples and melodic elements invite repeat listening. equally suitable for early morning hours, ultra-deep techno sets, or quiet home listening sessions.

jessy lanza s second album oh no is inspired by japanese 80s electro outfit yellow magic orchestra’s philosophy of experimental pop. playfully laced with cascading arpeggios, crispy drum machines and breezy songs, oh no has an infectious energy that has carried over from her live shows.

been to long - the well remebered chorus of a successfull parisian duos single hit comes easily to mind while thinking of the latest internasjonal release. after a long hiatus - which feels like surely way long - we restart with one half of the formerly well known milanese pair - boogie drama - and it s very own lele sacchi. deejaying since 1995 sacchi has been and is still one of italys and especially milans musical icons - at least for electronic and alternative worlds, presents himself in his signature style. high on the heals of the success with rebirths smash lele sacchi vs blonde redhead - youre only kosmiquest is dark and cryptic, with a mean but very neat and elegant bassline plus an unmatched groove and feel for the floor. this time well balanced with a tad into psycheledic strinig heaven, wich combined with electronic effects is his ultimate kosmische quest. the whole thing is contered by an airy and superbright no less danceable lauer version and a fantatsic relaxed italo take on kraut which can propably be non done much better than byprins thomas walking on that lunga strada!

about a year ago nico stojan and acid pauli met at the studio to record some music. while doing so they discovered their common love for sample based production. so they were basically digging into old vinyls and eventually these three tracks came along. nothing more to say, but enjoy. call of the valley is the first release on the new label ouie: there has been a shift in this tiny piece of massive world and, like all other shifts, they are documented by those who were there. ouie is the label to do just that, created by the people who were there, making those shifts.

jami bassols has been a close member of hivern since its beginnings as one half of aster. now, following the release of noche/ templo, his two acclaimed edits for nvh, he returns to the label with his solo debut as jmii. in thrills, the barcelonian producer displays a sound that s equally raw and lively, with a very personal sense of quirkiness. the title track is jmii s most expansive production to date. an uplifting house number built around an elastic bassline and sprinkled with a bubbly arpeggiated melody, echoed vocal snips and ravey pads. bailar is a sort of lunatic take on chi-house, with a crude bassline, psychotic organ chords and feverish percussion coming together to form an ultra-infectious groove. tightbrass follows a similar path, but conducted by frenzied synthetic horns that bring to mind a marching band of manic robots. in his remix, comeme s christian s. brings the track to a darker territory, reducing it to it s core elements and focusing in a nasty bassline that will for sure cause serious damage in the dancefloors in the upcoming months.

after rebolledo’s successful debut album super vato (cÓmeme cd lp 01) from two thousand eleven, his highly praised mix cd momento drive (kompakt cd 117) from two thousand fourteen, and all-around mayhem during his adventures as one half of the pachanga boys, xalapa s finest returns with his second solo album mondo alterado: a recollection of moments and experiences from recent years, colorful mnemonics encompassing the brightest and the darkest. the result is a kind of soundtrack for a movie that doesn t exist, a sonic journey designed like a mixtape that faithfully reflects rebolledo s background as dj and producer. nine tracks connect for one overarching narrative, sharing elements, motives, details, as they blend together. the artist s signature can be found all over the place, roaming between straight, rock-drenched drumming, sinister atmospheres, raw synth textures, exciting peaks and foggy bottoms - but always following the kinetic flow and relentless drive which are such a big part of rebolledo s compelling charme.

your silent faces second release – the first on his own label tethys records – continues the deep, brooding techno trajectory set by his first track on fiedeltwo, a place where arms bend backwards. title track red rain is urgent yet considered: subtle acid lines swirl and build against bright defined percussion while the bassline builds towards infinity. it reveals ysf’s inspirations from motorik music, early industrial bands like nitzer ebb and deep techno heroes including sandwell district and rrose.kleinian transform takes techno to a place where georgio moroder meets front 242 and basic channel, creating robotic space-tracks with dub disco melodies, insistent bassline and mighty crescendos. its a late night dancefloor track influenced by dj hell and francois k, but equally by coil and new order. scorched earth closes the red rain ep with a post–apocalyptic melancholy, a soundscape which nods to kraftwerk and boards of canada. this is the track ysf wants you to hear at the end of times, recalling the blistering winds of post-nuclear fallout: darkly spacious, with a questioning melody. the ep was mastered by keith tenniswood at curvepusher.

credit 00 strikes back with four cuts between jungle funk and sublime party bombs. -tribal rhythm machine- starts off with subtle but effective drumming that works on the dance floor as much as it could be the soundtrack to your road trip to utopia. then there is -curse of the medusa-, a pretty rumbling track that takes full advantage of its super-funky vocal samples and almost explosive percussion action. -voodoo soup- fishes in muddy waters with credit 00 s distinctive drum work and tribal sounds from outer space. the final track -snake charmer- is building things up nice and steady. but when the hypnotizing synth melody breaks ground neither serpents nor dancers can resist. the artwork was created by alexander dorn a.k.a. credit 00 himsel

last year saw the mysterious garage shelter make their debut appearance on skylax, and little is still known about them! all we know is they are back with some freshness on the skylax classic sublabel. first up is bring back love, a track that will sink its claws in with that infectious vocal sample hook. sticking with the old school sample vibe is the lonely heart dub of attempt, it’s a bit more mellow but still has plenty of groove in it. friend of the garage shelter, dj la foudre, appears over on the b side with it’s alright (signal st mix). still on that catchy sample tip, it features one of the grooviest bassline and funky guitar pairings i’ve heard in a long time. next up, perception 66 is a smooth house affair from yet another friend, asa no hikari. rounding out the package is garage shelter’s own you (still), a dreamy pad-driven track that may indeed be the pick of the release. while we don’t know much about garage shelter, we can’t help but look forward to what they come out with next!

christopher rau is one of smallvilles steady mainstays, with yamato he is delivering four tracks, that perfectly describe the seductive cosmos of smallvilles sound. there is nods to the past as well as a way to a timeless future. carefully evolving melody, voices and something caressing from somewhere far away- but within your heart in just a moment. its bubbling and telling stories from the inside but its still targeted straight to a dancefloor- dedicated to the sweetest ones of the world.

having finally woken from our deep winter slumber, team fancy human shuffle in through the door of 2016, in need of a shave and a coffee, clutching the newly minted test pressing of the first full release from london duo and co-founders lucatwana. the normally work shy combo deliver to you fh003, or under it s more catchier moniker, city droids. if they d have got it done quicker, we might have been able to cash in on the stars wars related hype, but never mind. anywho, city droids takes the form of three originals, beginning with the uplifting funk of city fucking, moving through the tougher and darker grind of droids on roids and ending with a nod to detroit with nobody knows. pleasingly, we also have a fancy human favourite tigerskin on remix duties, with a smooth, driving, hypno re-imaging of droids on roids that hits the nail firmly on the head.

frankfurt based producer, dj and music lover martin heimann presents his debut single salto on carry on 008. remaining faithful to its name, the small label puts out another piece of limited wax every once in a long while. enrooted in the soundscapes of 80s proto house the original version of salto is a thriving piece of octave liberation. consistent changes between harmonics break up the repetitive structure, while fm pads and the 303 are performing a little duet. the release is ennobled by two proper remixes from moon b (peoples potential unlimited) and jex opolis (good timin). while moon b keeps it bubblin’ with some extra analogue funk bounce and subtle italo dance floor energy, the b-side is jexi-fied with some embellishment to the cords, change in the bassline and a nice 808 snap. on top mr. opolis adds some mysterious but cheesy vocals samples that match perfect with the moody 80s orchestral stabs.

edits is back with another release made for the floor.hip house party anthems sounds a bit cheesy but this is exactly what the tracks do when played on a proper sound system. these tracks were never meant to be released and couldonly be heard on the floor at the right place at the right time. but since reactions were always so overwhelming these tracks are now released for everybody to enjoy. the a-side features original tracks from amsterdam cool kid tommy theo (this is his first release)and label founders latelier. ...

following eps for creme organization and w.t. records, art crime delivers a four tracker of meltingly good music on pinkman records. chords cascade, blending and reforming, in the warming wonder of still life , dead carnation is from a similar place. keys skipping down scales, dancing down them as percussion lends a touch of weight. distant is the mood changer. rain falls, smoke whirls and the night descends in this dark and intoxicating encounter. but those clouds part for the close. lush pads and soaring notes break through for calming currents of the less than aptly titled hectic . an artist rewriting stereotypes, an ep of true quality.

morah’s first release came from helena hauff’s return to disorder label and this time the athenian producer takes the same techno and electro sound and goes completely berserk for berceuse heroique. morah creates some huge waves of feedback on anarchy, which sounds like a techno version of metal machine music, then he takes the old school viewlexx sound and makes it even more confrontational, on you said no and impasse. looking back is a beautiful, melancholic - but still very dysfunctional - version of the death of a rave. one of the strongest points of this new producer is that his music sounds like the city of athens right now: raw energy mixed with manic depression and pessimism.

fuse london have cemented their place in the worldwide underground with an unwavering belief in the dj and production talents of an extended network of friends and they once again hit gold with antony difrancesco and samuel bellis db productions ep - 87-88 kicks things off with a distinctly fuse-esque sound, a hazy tripped out groove and spoken female vocal ride a raw jungle tinged b-line. one way to pluto is the eps vinyl only track and keeps things deep but no less driving whilst adderall adds an almost techno sensibility in its quirkier elements. to round the ep off label head enzo siragusa once again joins forces with alexkid under their kilimanjaro guise to provide a sleek dub interpretation of 87-88

in 2006, tim arndt released the first near the parenthesis album “go out and see”. arndt had intended to follow up that release with a more beatless ambient album, where percussion was left to the side and composition took center stage. a shelved idea that we now get the benefit of a full ten years later. this new album helical is the realization of arndt s stripped down ambient concept. helical features arndt’s characteristic experimental modem classical instrumentation and compositional style, but slows things down and stretches them out. the focus on the organic is clear, but moments of ethereal breath weave in and out and prevent the album from becoming too self aware. helical, as a loose reference to the geometric structure of our very dna and it contains themes that are driven by a recent discovery of arndt’s past and ancestry. the release seamlessly stitches all of these concepts together and marks an unique release and new direction for arndt’s near the parenthesis.
